I finally made it to summer vacation which, as you know, means I’m up in Maine. And this year’s workhorse is the 2019 GMC Acadia; a 3-row, midsize SUV that was last redesigned 3 years ago. It has done a yeoman’s job of everything I’ve asked of it thus far and if you’re considering one here are 10 things you need to know.
With choking traffic and a growing level of ineptitude from behind the wheel, driving is usually anything but an enjoyable experience. So as Americans we try and isolate ourselves in big SUVs and I get why. But when a hot little hatchback like this shows up the driver within is exhumed. This is the new Hyundai Veloster N and it’s the most new car fun you can have for under $30k. https://testdrivenow.com/2019-hyundai-veloster-n/
What will it look like? Will it be called the Scrambler? The buzz has been building for years. But the real question in my mind is why are people going so crazy about the new Jeep pickup truck? I suppose the timing is right seeing as how off-road trucks are suddenly hot. But I suspect that it’s our insatiable appetite for things we can no longer have that is driving this frenzy. After all, Jeep hasn’t produced a truck in over a quarter century. So here we are with a revival of the Gladiator, harkening back to a Jeep truck of the same name produced until 1972.
MSRP as-tested: $55,485
There is a surprisingly large faction of car buyers who don’t want “stuff.” I see it in my comments section all the time: “I don’t need…just more to go wrong, more I’ll have to fix, too complicated.” Well, this review is for those people: the VW Golf SportWagen. There’s no smart key, no push button start, no power liftgate, no full-power seats, no leather, no sat radio, no navi, no LED headlights, no sunroof, no USB ports in the rear, no adaptive cruise control. So those who prefer basic can rejoice because this VW offers up a whole lot of no for about $27k.
When the redesigned 2020 Ford Super Duty launches later this year it’ll be ready to quake with a new off-road package. Ford says they’ve designed this truck for the Super Duty customer who uses their truck for more than just work. More ground clearance, bigger shocks, and bigger tires add more off-road capability for the outdoorsman. Pricing and specs will be announced closer to launch.
