2017 Ford F-150 Raptor FIRST LOOK
2017 Ford F-150 Raptor FIRST LOOK By Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Though we’re still about a year away from seeing one on the showroom floor, the all-new, 2nd generation 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor recently wrapped up its initial desert durability testing. This high-performance off-road truck was pushed harder over this 66 mile desert trail route than it will be by any owner over the vehicle’s lifetime. From fast sandy washes to slow crawls through tight trenches, the Raptor spanned speeds ranging from 100mph to 10mph. In the end, the 2017 Raptor is 25% faster than the current truck.
Powered by an all-new, high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with more grunt than the current Raptor’s 411 horsepower V8, the new truck uses an all-new 10-speed transmission which connects through an all-new 4-wheel drive transfer case with easier to use off-road driver-assist technology. Six inches wider than the standard F-150, this Raptor boasts its first ever dual exhaust and new 17” wheels with next-gen BFGoodrich All-Terrain K02 tires. FOX Racing Shox feature more suspension travel than the current Raptor’s 11.2” at the front and 12” at the rear.
