2016 Hyundai Tucson FIRST LOOK

2016 Hyundai Tucson FIRST LOOK

Hyundai is getting serious about the fast-selling small crossover segment and that’s bad news for competitors.  The all-new 2016 Tucson capitalizes on the successes of its bigger brothers, the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport, in a compact size driver’s love. The sporty new design trickles down from those 2, creating a premium look with a youthful exuberance.

2016 Tucson

Longer and wider than the previous model, the new Tucson boasts an extra 5 cubic feet of cargo volume and employs a clever dual-level floor further enhancing versatility.  With efficiency as a primary target, powertrain offerings begin with a modern 2.0-liter 4-cylinder producing 164 horsepower coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission producing an estimated 26mpg combined for a FWD model.  Eco, Sport and Limited models offer a new 1.6-liter turbo-4 producing 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque mated to a new 7-speed dual clutch automatic. This results in as much as 29mpg combined – a 5mpg improvement over the former 2.4-liter engine.  A new AWD system is offered with a selectable lock mode for off-roading and Active Cornering Control to enhance performance.

The suspension has been tuned for more precise handling without sacrificing ride comfort and steering feel has been improved.  Ventilated front seats and stain-resistant fabric are segment firsts while Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection highlights a host of new electronic-based safety features.
