2017 BUICK ENCORE FIRST LOOK
2017 BUICK ENCORE FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Buick’s best-seller and most fuel efficient model is the Encore small SUV. Sold globally and imported from South Korea, the Encore was introduced to the American market in 2013 and quickly attracted a large number of non-GM and female buyers to the brand.
For the 2017 model year, the Encore looks to strengthen its segment leading position by upgrading to the latest tech and exhibiting a new sculpted design. New connectivity technology includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration with the IntelliLink system. It also includes OnStar 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot allowing passengers to connect up to 7 devices to high-speed wireless internet.
An updated instrument panel and new center stack place a greater emphasis on material selection, placement and subtle details. From outside, the addition of Buick’s new winged grille with tri-color insignia and available full LED headlamps highlight the new design features. Additionally, there’s a new chrome exhaust outlet, body-color mirrors, 18” wheel design and 3 new color choices.
Standard features include push-button start, smart entry and an 8” color touchscreen. The 1.4-liter turbo and 6-speed automatic transmission powertrain remains, generating 138 horsepower while an optional, direct-injected version ups the ante to 153 horsepower and more importantly 177 pound-feet of torque for quicker acceleration.
