2016 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss FIRST LOOK
2016 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Joining the Midnight Edition as one of 2 special models, the 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71 Trail Boss packages an off-road suspension with more aggressive 17” Wrangler DuraTrac off-road tires. An all-new sport bar with LED trail lighting gives the Trail Boss its visual identity, while bold fender flares, tubular assist steps, a black bowtie grille emblem and a spray-on bedliner round out the offerings. Inside, a set of all-weather floor mats help keep your rig clean.
The Trail Boss is available on Z71 models with the extended and crew cab bodies and in 2WD or 4WD. You can choose any of the Colorado’s 3 available engines, including the new 2.8L Duramax turbo diesel. Extending towing capability to a maximum of 7,700 pounds and expected to return more than 30mpg highway, the diesel produces 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
It comes bundled with a host of other features including an exhaust brake system for greater control descending steep grades, a 6-speed automatic transmission with a powertrain noise and vibration reducer, a trailer brake controller for more confident towing and a 3.42 rear axle ratio; same as on the V6 model. Depending on configuration, prices for the diesel model range from $31,700 to $38,700.
