2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon First Look By Auto Critic Steve Hammes
When it comes to American muscle, Dodge is still pushing the envelope like the 60s never ended and the Brotherhood of Muscle just welcomed its most potent member.
This is the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon and it’s a car that’s so fast it’s been banned from NHRA drag racing unless owners make significant safety modifications.
Dodge is claiming a number of production car firsts, including wheelies, the use of 100+ octane gas, and front passenger seat delete. They’re calling the Demon the world’s fastest 0-to-60mph production car at 2.3 seconds, also turning in the fastest quarter mile with an elapsed time of 9.65 seconds at 140 mph. Powered by an 840-horsepower, supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® Demon V-8, the limited-production Challenger SRT Demon is the world’s most powerful factory-production V-8.
The standard 8-speed automatic transmission comes with TransBrake, which locks the output shaft to hold the car in place before a standing start. It rides upon a set of 4 standard Nitto street-legal, drag race tires. Skinny, front runner drag wheels are included in what is called the Demon crate. Fully customized with the buyer’s name, VIN and serial number and priced at only $1, it unleashes the car’s full power and further includes the high-octane engine calibration, performance air filter, track tools and more.
Other $1 options include a front-passenger seat, rear seat and trunk carpet kit. All customers who buy the new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon receive one full-day session at Bob Bondurant School of High-performance Driving in Arizona. Dodge has named Hagerty as its official insurance provider for the Demon.
Available in 15 colors with only 3,000 cars slated for the U.S., MSRP is $87,790 including gas guzzler tax and destination.
