2018 KIA STINGER FIRST LOOK
2018 KIA STINGER FIRST LOOK BY AUTO CRITIC STEVE HAMMES
Get the EpiPen ready because you’re about to be stung. Introducing the all-new 2018 Stinger; a powerful, fastback sport sedan redefining the Kia brand.
In a segment currently dominated by European automakers, the Stinger is the highest-performance production vehicle in the company’s history. Offered with multiple engine and drivetrain configurations and luxurious accommodations, the Stinger was designed in Kia’s Frankfurt studio as a true GT – a car for spirited long-distance driving.
Tapping the former BMW M VP of Engineering for his chassis expertise, the Stinger is the first Kia to offer a driver selectable suspension with 5 drive modes. With a longer wheelbase than the Audi A4, Lexus GS and Mercedes CLS, the Stinger allows for a spacious cabin and the largest cargo area in its class.
While both engines are still under development, the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder produces an estimated 255 horsepower. Performance credentials are further enhanced through the available 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which is anticipated to produce 365 horsepower and offer max torque of 376 lb.-ft. Kia is targeting 5.1 seconds to 62 mph.
Featuring an 8-speed automatic transmission and available in rear wheel drive with a mechanical limited slip differential or all-wheel drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring, the V6 Stinger GT is fitted with staggered width, 19” ultra-high performance rubber and Brembo brakes.
Pricing is to be announced closer to its late 2017 on sale date.
