2018 FORD MUSTANG FIRST LOOK

2018 FORD MUSTANG FIRST LOOK BY AUTO CRITIC STEVE HAMMES

With a more athletic appearance, updated powertrains and increased customization, the refreshed 2018 Ford Mustang offers a host of improvements.

Sleeker design, more advanced technology and improved performance – the new Mustang features all-LED front lights, Ford’s first 12” all-digital LCD screen, and a reworked V8.

While the 2.3-liter EcoBoost carries over, the V6 is gone and the 5.0 in the Mustang GT is more powerful and revs higher than any before it, accomplished by using Ford’s first application of both direct and port fuel injection.  The GT’s manual transmission has also been totally redesigned to support the increased output while a new 10-speed automatic transmission debuts, available with both engines.

On all models, new shocks make for better ride control while MagneRide dampers are a new option as part of the Performance Package to optimize ride and handling.  And delivering an audible experience like never before, an all-new active valve exhaust system is optional on GT.

Inside, an all-new customizable instrument cluster can be personalized with normal, sport and track modes while new safety features like Pre-Collision Assist with pedestrian detection adds to confidence behind the wheel.  Improved touch points and visual cues covey a more premium look and feel.

The 2018 Mustang goes on sale this fall.
