2016 GMC Terrain FIRST LOOK
2016 GMC Terrain FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Introduced as a 2010 model, the Terrain compact SUV has given GMC a Professional Grade take on the Chevy Equinox and over the past 5 years it’s become the brand’s 2nd best-seller while at the same broadening their demographics by providing them their highest percentage of female buyers at 44%. And though a complete redesign will wait until 2017, the refreshed 2016 model receives new front and rear fascias with chrome-accented grille designs, including a specific texture on Denali, a new power dome hood design, LED running lamps on higher trim models, and new 18” and 19” wheel designs.
The bolder design caters to many Terrain shoppers’ top reason for purchase; style. The enhancements continue inside with a revised instrument panel and updated control graphics.
Meanwhile, some high-end safety features previously reserved for Denali, such as Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are now available on lower Terrain models. The revised model lineup starts at SL and continues to SLE, SLT and Denali.
Engine choices carryover with a 2.4L Ecotec engine delivering as much as 32mpg highway and a 3.6-liter V6 making a best-in-class 301 horsepower. Front and all-wheel drive models are available, both working though a 6-speed automatic transmission.
