2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe
2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Going on sale this summer, the all-new 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe joins the sedan and wagon as the latest member of the popular E-Class family. Based technically on the sedan, the new Coupe grows beyond its former subcompact dimensions, stretched by nearly 5”, significantly improving interior spaciousness and comfort, particularly in terms of rear seat room. This 4-seater is now better suited for longer journeys.
Its performance is derived from a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine producing 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. In the E400, this produces acceleration from 0-to-60mph in 5.2 seconds, 3/10th’s longer when equipped with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
An ECO Start/Stop feature aids in fuel efficiency. The Coupe features a standard lowered suspension with selective damping while an air suspension can be specified for a higher level of ride sophistication. Linked to the five selectable driving modes, configuring the Coupe’s variety of systems is done at the push of a button and takes the car from a Comfort persona to a vivacious Sport + feel.
Designers targeted sporty emotion and luxurious intelligence for the cabin, with a large high-res display, full smartphone integration and a trio of virtual instrument layouts. Further personalization comes in the form of 64 selectable ambient lighting colors.
Pricing has yet to be announced but an MSRP in the neighborhood of $60,000 is expected.
