2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
The E-Class is the core of the Mercedes-Benz brand, often setting the standards in the business-class segment. This new 10th generation 2017 E-Class aims to deliver stylish highlights with its distinct, emotional design and high-grade interior. Mercedes says it marks the world premiere of numerous technical innovations, enabling enhanced comfort, a new level of safe driving, a new dimension in driver assistance and a new infotainment and control system.
A new, optionally available air suspension has been designed to ensure outstanding ride comfort and driving dynamics. Its wheelbase has grown by over 2.5” with an elongated hood and coupe-esque roof. At launch, the E300 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine rated at 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
Further model variants will be added thereafter. All models are equipped with a new 9-speed automatic transmission. One of the new tech highlights is Remote Parking Pilot, allowing the vehicle to be moved into and out of garages and parking spaces remotely using a smartphone app.
Furthermore, DRIVE PILOT takes the E-Class into the autonomous driving realm, making life easier for the driver who no longer needs to operate the brake or accelerator pedal during normal driving. A wagon, coupe and convertible will follow over the next 3 years.
