2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid FIRST LOOK
2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Toyota’s popular RAV4 small SUV already comes available with gas engine and electric drivetrains. And now for 2016, a hybrid debuts offering more horsepower and higher MPG than the conventional RAV4. Targeted towards young adventure-seeking couples looking for a vehicle that provides utility, capability and excellent fuel efficiency, the RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 2 premium grades: XLE and Limited.
It features a hybrid system consisting of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and an electronic continuously variable transmission with a rear motor that operates independently of the front motor. Utilizing what Toyota calls an All-Wheel Drive System with Intelligence, the additional electric motor delivers instant torque to the rear wheels on demand only when traction is needed. Toyota is promising segment-leading fuel economy. It rides on unique 17” wheels and is available in 6 exterior colors including this new Electric Storm Blue.
All 2016 RAV4 models receive more premium styling, innovative technology, enhanced driving dynamics and a quieter ride. It offers a new Bird’s Eye View Monitor providing drivers assistance when parallel parking and when pulling in and out of parking spaces. It’s also one of the first Toyota models with Safety Sense, a new multi-feature safety package anchored by automated pre-collision braking.
