Every automaker strives to have an iconic model; an instantly recognizable vehicle with a backstory everyone knows. For Toyota, it’s the Prius.  Synonymous with the term ‘hybrid’, the Prius is the posterchild of green motoring.

2016 Toyota Prius BIGNow for 2016, the Prius launches into its 4th generation with numerous improvements to make the famous gasoline-electric car more appealing to an even greater audience.

With a bold, new appearance this Prius is longer, lower and wider than before, debuts new lithium-ion battery technology, elevates its driving acumen with a new double wishbone rear suspension, and offers a new Eco grade trim level that ratchets up fuel economy to 58mpg city.

The new hybrid system operates more efficiently and quietly while offering a higher level of driving performance through the use of smaller, lighter components.  The 1.8-liter engine has been retuned and all but the base model utilize a smaller lithium-ion hybrid battery which now resides under the rear seat yielding more cargo space.

Improved aerodynamics also contribute to the estimated 54mpg city/50mpg highway rating on non-Eco models.  With a lower center of gravity and a more responsive suspension system, the new Prius has been engineered to deliver a considerably more engaging driving experience while also providing a markedly smoother and quieter ride.

The new Toyota Safety Sense includes a Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection among other accident avoidance features while Intelligent Parking Assist makes its US debut, offering automatic steering for parallel and perpendicular parking.

The price range of the 2016 Prius is from $24,200 to $30,000 plus destination.  It includes the Prius Two, Prius Two Eco, Prius Three, Prius Three Touring, Prius Four and Prius Four Touring.
