2016 Scion tC FIRST LOOK
2016 Scion tC FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Before the next generation tC arrives on the new Prius and Corolla platform sometime in 2017, Scion is keeping their most successful model up-to-date.
Last refreshed a couple of years ago, this 2016 tC adds a new 7” touch screen display with voice recognition technology to complement the standard 8 speaker Pioneer audio system and optional BeSpoke Audio with Navigation. Also new for 2016 are silver accent interior door handles, an updated center console cover and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Smart Key with push-button start and a standard rear windshield wiper round out the upgrades.
Targeted at younger buyers looking for a high level of standard equipment, fun driving dynamics and safety features, the tC has a starting price of $20,180 when equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission and $1,150 more for the 6-speed auto with paddle shifters and downshift rev matching.
Both are powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder delivering 179 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque returning 23mpg city/31mpg highway.
A MacPherson strut front suspension and double-wishbone rear carry through the improved ride comfort and handling characteristics introduced in 2014 along with retuned steering for improved response times.
