2016 Kia Forte5 FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Residing in the heart of Kia’s compact car lineup is the Forte; available in sedan, coupe and hatchback bodystyles. This European-inspired Forte5 is the most versatile with 23 cubic feet of luggage volume; spacious enough to garner a Large Car rating from the EPA.
For those who want the hot hatch experience, the sporty SX trim comes equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo-4 producing 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque and is the only trim available with a 6-speed manual transmission. FlexSteer is also standard on this model, giving the driver the choice of settings from Comfort to Sport. New for 2016 is the LX value model with standard cruise control, keyless entry, 16” alloy wheels, steering-wheel mounted audio controls, satellite radio, and Bluetooth giving consumers a Forte5 with a lower MSRP of $20,225 including destination.
Along with the midtrim Forte5 EX, the LX is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 173 horsepower and paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, providing the most efficient choice with an EPA rated 25mpg city/33mpg highway. Other updates for 2016 include a new audio system, rear camera display and 17” wheels for the EX trim. With the convenience and practicality of 5 doors and its distinct European appearance speaking to performance intentions, the 2016 Forte5 is a welcome compliment to its sedan sibling.
