2014 Chevrolet Spark EV
Chevrolet has introduced its first, all-electric vehicle: the 2014 Spark EV. This 5-door urban mini-car has swapped its
gasoline engine for an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. GM says it provides among the best EV range
performance in the segment while 400 pound feet of torque generates instant acceleration, with a satisfying 0-to-60mph time of less than 8 seconds. Charging is accomplished through a port on the side of the car which can accommodate all three platforms currently
available, including home charging at 120 and 240 volts and at available Fast Charging stations that can do the job in about 20 minutes. Using a dedicated 240V outlet recharges the Spark in less than 7 hours. Chevy gives owners a variety of ways to schedule and monitor the charging process through OnStar.com and an associated mobile app. There’s also a confidence gauge among the number of standard convenience
features that shows the expected driving range based on driving habits and other conditions. And along with MyLink
radio, the Spark EV uses Siri voice interaction for those with compatible Apple iPhones. The Spark EV qualifies for HOV
lanes in California and comes with a sub $25,000 price after tax incentives.
