2016 Ford Explorer FIRST LOOK
2016 Ford Explorer FIRST LOOK
With more than 7 million sold in the U.S., America’s best-selling SUV for 25 years is the Ford Explorer. When it was last redesigned in 2011, Ford definitively moved its popular sport-ute into the 21st century by taking it off of its traditional truck frame and eschewing the V8 engine. And here they go again with the all-new 2016 Explorer. Highlights include a new 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine that can now be specified with an available tow package and 4-wheel drive. This bigger 270 horsepower turbocharged motor is optional on base, XLT and Limited series. And those looking for the ultimate Explorer experience will appreciate the all-new Platinum series with “…the most premium, high-quality interior…” Ford has ever offered. Beyond the upscale cabin is a new-look exterior with signature lighting surrounds, LED headlamps, and 20” wheels. An improved suspension is designed for better handling, a quieter cabin and a comfortable ride on and off pavement while Explorer Sport models are tuned for a more dynamic driving experience. A bevy of new technologies and safety features include smart-charging USB ports throughout the vehicle. The 3-row 2016 Explorer with available 4-wheel drive comes in Base, XLT, Limited, Explorer Sport and Platinum trims with a 3.5-liter V6 as standard on the first 3 models and a 365 horsepower twin-turbo V6 fitted on the 2 upper end models. 6-speed automatics are mated throughout.
