2016 Dodge Viper ACR FIRST LOOK
2016 Dodge Viper ACR FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Ever since 1999, Dodge has been building a Viper even more venomous than its already virulent standard model. Known as the Viper ACR- short for American Club Racer – Dodge calls it the ultimate street legal race car. Last available in 2010; the new Viper ACR is back for the 2016 model year with a starting MSRP of about $120,000.
Combining the latest in aerodynamic, braking and tire technology this is the Viper you want if shaving every last hundredth of a second from your lap times is of the highest priority. With significant aerodynamic and suspension upgrades, new Carbon Ceramic brakes and high performance Kumho tires specific to this car, the Viper ACR blurs the lines between steer and race car. Capable of 1.5 g during high-speed turns and powered by the monstrous 8.4-liter V10 rated at 645 horsepower, the ACR has been designed to run at the track all day with no fall off in performance.
The race-tuned suspension features 10-setting, double-adjustable, coil-over Bilstein racing shocks while the available Extreme Aero Package bundles an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing, a unique SRT hood with removable louvers and a detachable extension for the front splitter. Creature comforts are few with the use of lightweight carpet, minimal 3-speaker audio and manual seats. Dodge does offer a customization program that allows customers to have more than 25 million build combinations with 8,000 exterior color options alone.
