2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider FIRST LOOK
2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider FIRST LOOK
When I first took the wheel of the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C last summer, its candid no-nonsense approach to sports car driving was as refreshing as it was surprising. This is a car, after all, that disposes with the notion of power steering. And now to expand the 4C offerings, an open-air Spider debuts for the 2015 model year.
Handcrafted in Italy in a process that takes 6 weeks to produce a single car, the Spider features a removable canvas top that can be folded and stowed in the rear storage space or an optional carbon fiber hard top roof that must stay behind. Looking to drop weight wherever possible, the svelte 4C Spider adds even more carbon fiber to a car already rich with it; to the windshield surround, trimming the vents, around the center-mounted exhaust and even the car’s rear “halo,” if desired. Thanks to the carbon fiber monocoque body’s inherent rigidity – three times stronger than steel – engineers were able to minimize structural differences between the Spider and the Coupe.
The mid-mounted 1750 cc 4-cylinder turbocharged engine plays the sounds of generating 237 horsepower and 258 pound feet of torque through one of 3 available exhaust systems including an all-new Akrapovic dual-mode system for the most ardent motorsports enthusiasts. A Track package is also available with uprated shocks, larger sway bars, Pirelli AR Racing tires and other interior enhancements.
