2017 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT FIRST LOOK BY AUTO CRITIC STEVE HAMMES
“In direct response to consumers who continue to ask for even more luxury, craftsmanship and standard premium features in a full-size SUV packed with capability,” Jeep introduces the updated 2017 Grand Cherokee Summit; the range-topping, non-SRT model with a starting MSRP in the low 50s.
The look has been refashioned with an updated front fascia, grille and LED fog lamps, with new 20” polished aluminum wheels. An available Summit California Edition appearance package further enhances the exterior aesthetics.
A new full-wrap Laguna leather interior, suede headliner, lighted door sills, acoustic windshield, Active Noise Cancellation, Berber carpet mats and a 19-speaker, 825 watt Harman/Kardon audio system with 3 subwoofers are standard. The full array of safety tech features are also included, such as Forward Collision Warning and for the first time Lane Departure Warning and Park Assist.
Mechanically, the Summit also uses the Grand Cherokee’s best Quadra-Drive II 4X4 system with an electronic limited slip differential and Quadra-Lift air suspension.
The standard engine is a 295 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 netting 21mpg in combined driving or optionally, a 360 horsepower 5.7-liter V8 or a 420 pound-feet of torque 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel with up to 7,400 pounds towing; all matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
