2016 Toyota Prius v FIRST LOOK

2016 Toyota Prius v FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes

While Toyota celebrates 2016 with an all-new Prius liftback, the largest and roomiest Prius model will have to wait one more year for its redesign.

2016 Toyota Prius v bigHaving been refreshed last year, the Prius v wagon moves into the 2016 model year doing what it’s been doing best since its 2012 debut; providing hybrid shoppers with a variant that features more cargo room than most small SUVs combined with a fuel economy rating of 44mpg city.

The v stands for versatility so there’s ample head- and legroom for 5 plus a generous 34 cubic feet of space behind the split fold seats.  That’s practically doubled with the seatbacks lowered.  Storage units built into the sides and under the cargo floor can hold additional smaller items.  There’s even a compartment under the rear seats designed to store umbrellas.

The Prius v uses the same Hybrid Synergy Drive as the regular Prius, capable of being powered by the gas engine, electric motor or most often, a combination of both.  Various driving modes allow the driver to use the 134 total system horsepower to their liking.  There are 4 models from which to choose with pricing starting at $27,510.

The top trim Prius v Five comes with an Advanced Technology Package, adding the Entune Premium JBL Audio system with navigation, adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, auto high beams, a panoramic moonroof and an OnStar-like Safety Connect subscription service.
