2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder FIRST LOOK
2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder FIRST LOOK
For sports car purists, less if often more. Such is the case with the new Boxster Spyder from Porsche. It’s been 8 years since the last limited edition Spyder and this new top model of the Boxster range retains that car’s fundamental principal of shedding weight while increasing performance. The top is still opened and closed by hand and there’s no automatic transmission on the options menu.
There’s neither a radio nor air conditioning to fuss with, although those items are optional. If you want sound, simply create it with your right foot. The larger, mid-engine 3.8-liter flat-six has an output of 375 horsepower capable of producing a 0-to-60mph time of 4.3-seconds on its way to a 180mph top speed. A short-throw 6-speed manual works the gears.
There’s a firmer suspension with a lowered ride height riding atop 20” wheels, 911 Carrera S-sourced brakes and more direct steering. Porsche refers to the Spyder as the Boxster unfiltered and all of its exclusive design elements facilitate a classic roadster experience. Available in 9 colors – all with a black convertible top – and a host of Porsche personalization options, pricing starts at $83,095.
