2016 Buick Envision FIRST LOOK
2016 Buick Envision FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
In case you haven’t heard, SUVs are hot again and automakers can’t get enough of them into their product portfolio. Enter the new 2016 Buick Envision. Situated between the subcompact Encore and 3-row Enclave, the Chinese-built Envision is armed to take on the likes of the Acura RDX, Audi Q5 and Lincoln MKC.
With more rear cargo space than the Acura, more passenger volume than the Lincoln, and a more technologically advanced suspension than the Audi, the Envision combines Buick’s core characteristics designed with segment-challenging driving dynamics, advanced technology and a whisper-quiet cabin. All Envision models come standard with a 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-4 with stop/start technology paired with a 6-speed automatic.
It’s also Buick’s first crossover to use GM’s High Performance Strut front suspension. Debuting on the 2010 LaCrosse sedan, HiPer Strut improves upon traditional MacPherson struts, reducing torque steer and unwanted vibrations through the steering wheel.
Additionally, the Envision uses a new, standard Twin Clutch AWD system to improve efficiency. An available Surround Vision camera, Full Speed Range Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Mitigation Braking compliment a host of standard safety features. The standard 8” IntelliLink screen is paired with 4 USB ports and is available with OnStar with 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
From concept in 2011 to showrooms in 2016, Envision is a global vehicle going on sale this year.
