2016 Audi TT FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
A design revolution was underway at VW and the Audi Group in the late ‘90s when cars such as the New Beetle and TT had everyone talking. And now the time has come to redesign an icon and the all-new 2016 TT aims to become the technology, performance and design leader in the premium sporty coupe and roadster segment. The TT features a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo capable of 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It’s rated at 23mpg city/30mpg highway on recommended premium. With a curb weight of only 3,186 pounds, quick acceleration is standard, permitting a 0-to-60mph time of 5.3 seconds.
The only transmission available is a 6-speed dual clutch automatic Audi calls S tronic and all models feature quattro all-wheel drive. Audi drive select allows the user to adjust shift points, throttle response and steering through various modes. When in Dynamic, quattro switches to a rear-wheel bias for sportier feel. The racier TTS Coupe receives a performance tuned 2.0-liter TFSI engine making 292 horsepower and sits on an adjustable magnetic ride suspension. An entirely digital instrument cluster creates a virtual cockpit allowing a customizable driving experience. The new MMI system incorporates a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and touchpad interface, while new HVAC controls are positioned directly into the center of the 3 central vents accentuating the futuristic feel. Pricing for the 2016 TT Coupe starts at $43,825 with a $3,500 premium for the Roadster, while the TTS Coupe starts at $52,825.
