Over the years, the Volkswagen Golf R has developed a cult following among import performance types.  It’s never available for all too long and is sold in limited numbers making it a coveted ride.  And just like all 3 previous Golf R models, this all new 2015 edition transfers its turbocharged power to the road via a permanent all-wheel drive system.  The latest version of 4MOTION decouples the rear wheels when not needed for better fuel economy.  And for drivers who prefer no electronic intervention, this Golf R has a fully defeatable stability control system. Using an even more advanced version of the 4-cylinder turbo used in the new Golf GTI, engineers boosted power to 290 horsepower while max torque increases to 280 pound-feet.  Gas mileage improves to 31mpg highway.  With the 6-speed manual, the Golf R accelerates from 0-to-60mph in 5.2-seconds – an improvement of .4-seconds over the old car.  Choose the 6-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and it takes less than 5 seconds.  The Golf R can also be ordered with dynamic chassis control with comfort, normal and sport modes.  As for the cabin, it’s been extensively upgraded with sport seats and new tech.
