FORD ECOSPORT FIRST LOOK

FORD ECOSPORT FIRST LOOK BY AUTO CRITIC STEVE HAMMES

Automakers can’t have enough hot-selling crossovers in their lineups these days and Ford has a vacancy for something smaller than the Escape.

Enter the EcoSport; a subcompact runabout which has been sold globally since 2003 but never in the U.S.  Competing with the likes of the Honda HR-V and Chevy Trax, the EcoSport is 9” shorter than the Escape and aims to be a “fun, capable, connected” SUV.

fordecosport_04_hrFord says it’s packed with features and personality catering to the growing lifestyle of sharing experiences with friends and family instead of buying more stuff.  A 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine powers front-drive models while a 2.0-liter turbo-4 comes standard on 4-wheel drive EcoSports.

Both work through a 6-speed automatic transmission.  S, SE, SES and Titanium trims are offered in 10 exterior color choices.  A swing-gate-style tailgate is standard.  Ford says the SES makes the biggest splash, featuring 4-wheel drive, a sport-tuned suspension and steering, and unique styling cues inside and out – including bold copper accents for the interior and sport seats.

The available, Ford Exclusive, B&O PLAY audio system packs in 10 speakers pushing 675 watts and the SYNC3 infotainment system is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.  As many as 30 stowage pockets, bins and hooks compliment the cargo management system at the rear.

Imported from India, the Ford EcoSport arrives on our shores early in 2018.
