2014 Cadillac ELR

Cadillac will soon be going where no full-line luxury brand has gone before with the 2014 ELR – an extended range electric coupe.
Using their experiences with the Chevrolet Volt, the ELR uses a small gas engine as a generator to charge a lithium-ion battery pack which in turn energizes an electric motor that turns the front wheels, shod in 20” tires designed to balance handling and a comfortable ride. The 5.5 foot long battery is T-shaped and resides in the vehicle floor between the front and rear wheels.  It’s covered by an 8-year/100,000-mile
warranty.  Torque output is a prodigious and instantaneous 295 pound feet and its exclusive Regen on Demand and driver
selectable drive modes enhance driving and make the most of efficiency.  Most daily commutes will require zero
gasoline and its full driving range exceeds 300 miles.  Advanced suspension and damping systems
ensure the ELR had a decidedly sportier driving persona than its cousin the Volt.  Charging the ELR’s battery can be
done with a 120V outlet or in about 4.5 hours with a dedicated 240V charging station.  An OnStar mobile app allows
owners to manage and monitor the ELR online.  Taking the Converj design from concept to production virtually
unchanged, the ELR has a dramatic, forward-leaning profile and, because of its limited production, will be quite exclusive.
