2015 GMC Canyon – First Look
The midsize truck is back – at least at GM where the all-new 2015 GMC Canyon joins the recent introduction of its corporate sibling, the Chevrolet Colorado. Truck buyers without the need for a full size Sierra will be pleased with the Canyon’s tidier dimensions and better fuel economy. But realizing these buyers have no less desire for capability GMC builds the Canyon with class-leading payload and trailering upon a fully-boxed perimeter frame. Three body configurations are offered: An extended cab model with a 6’ bed, a crew cab with a 5’ bed and a crew cab with a 6’ bed. With the tailgate down the 6’ bed allows 8’ items to be hauled with the truck. Automatic 4-wheel drive is available. And because it’s a GMC the Canyon is infused with comfort, refinement and high tech including OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and segment first driver alert features such as forward collision alert, lane departure warning and a standard rear vision camera. Power stems from either a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder making 193 horsepower or a 302-horse 3.6-liter V6. With the later, towing is maxed at an impressive 6,700 pounds though the addition of a 2.8-liter diesel engine in the 2016 model year will bring even greater capability.
