2014 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo

Having already given the 5 Series this treatment several years ago, BMW is now offering the 3 Series in Gran Turismo style.  Designed for those who like the Sports Wagon’s utility but desire a sexier package with, the all-new 2014 3 Series Gran Turismo is distinctive with its frameless windows, a coupe-like profile, sloping roofline and large tailgate.  It’s also a substantial, nearly 8” longer and over 3” taller than the wagon.  The front and rear seats are also placed over 2” higher for a more commanding view and easier entry while still delivering more headroom.  Labeled a large car by the EPA with its over 100 cubic feet of passenger volume, the 3 Series GT’s hatchback design isn’t quite as friendly to luggage space, losing 3 cubic feet to the wagon.  Pricing both from a starting price of $42,375 should give shoppers a fun choice to ponder.  But if its BMW’s famous inline 6-cylinder power you crave, the Gran Turismo is your only solution.  Though the 328i xDrive GT motors with the 2.0-liter turbo as in the wagon, BMW gives you the option of a 335i xDrive model here making 300 horsepower which still nets 30mpg highway.  8-speed automatics come standard on both though no diesel is offered on the GT.  The 3-Series Gran Turismo is offered in 3 equipment lines – Sport, Luxury and Modern – with an optional M Sport line with improved driving dynamics and an all-new aerodynamic package.
