2016 Chrysler 200S FIRST LOOK by Auto Critic Steve Hammes
Introduced in 2014, the Chrysler 200 competes in the mid-size sedan segment where, according to the company, it attracts customers motivated to succeed and whom word hard. They’re smart about what they purchase but are also willing to pay more for high quality, seeking a vehicle that is practical yet advanced and has an interior with a wow factor. And within the 4 model 200 lineup, it’s this 200S that offers the most distinctive style and sportier driving experience.
With a starting MSRP of $26,565 the 200S features gloss black exterior accents, dual bright exhaust tips, fog lamps, 18” wheels and a sport suspension. Power stems from Chrysler’s 2.4-liter Tigershark 4-cylinder engine, producing 184 horsepower and returning 36 mpg highway or the optional 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 turning out 295 horsepower, the latter required when choosing the optional all-wheel drive system. Inside, there are black cloth seats with blue leather trim and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for the 9-speed automatic transmission.
Optional upgrades include a blue leather interior, dual pane sunroof, 19” Hyper Black wheels and an assortment of lighting, navigation and sound groups. New for 2016, a backup cam is now standard, the front seats have improved firmness and UConnect introduces a trio of new features including a Drag and Drop Menu Bar, Siri Eyes Free for iPhone users and Do Not Disturb; affording the ability to route all incoming calls to voicemail and suppress test messages.
