2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI First Look
2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI First Look
The iconic VW Golf hatchback enters its 7th generation by celebrating 40 years in America. This all-new 2015 model continues to be offered with 2 or 4 doors and with 2 powertrains, the choice is yours; either a 1.8-liter turbocharged 4 mated to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic or the new 2.0-liter TDI diesel with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DSG transmission. This marks the first time the entire Golf lineup has gone turbo. Bigger yet lighter and more fuel-efficient than before, the Golf TSI sees a 20% boost in gas mileage compared to the 2.5-liter model it replaces. Just like old times, it’s the stick shift providing the best EPA numbers, rated at 25mpg city/37mpg highway. Horsepower remains at 170 but torque is increased to 200 pound-feet which hits lower in the power band. Built upon Volkswagen’s new, stronger MQB platform, this Golf also takes advantage of the sporty GTI’s XDS Cross Differential System to improve handling and cornering performance. With more shoulder and elbow room to go around and an 8% improvement in cargo capacity, the Golf just became more versatile, easily accommodating a full-size bike. There’s also a new touchscreen entertainment system, standard on all models. Trim levels for the TSI start at the Golf S 2-door with a starting MSRP of under $20,000 including destination and top out at the Golf SEL at under $28,000.
