2015 Alfa Romeo 4C – First Look
An Italian brand makes its triumphant return to the North American market. The all-new Alfa Romeo 4C is the first car offered in the U.S. by parent company Fiat-Chrysler since 1995. It’s a 2-seat, mid-engine, rear-wheel drive coupe with a very strong but extremely light carbon fiber monocoque body inspired by Formula 1 race cars. Power stems from a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged engine and is paired to a fast shifting twin-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Weighing less than 2,500 pounds and generating 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, the 4C can put away 60mph from a standstill in the mid 4-second range. Its compact size, nearly perfect 50:50 weight balance and aggressive Pirelli rubber help to produce huge levels of grip. The 4C uses staggered width wheels ranging from 17” to 19”. Referred to as the Alfa DNA selector, the 4C has 4 driver selectable modes spanning from all-weather to race. An initial batch of 500 4C models are being sold as the 2015 Launch Edition with a number of unique enhancements including a serialized plaque with a starting MSRP of $68,400. The remainder of the 4C allotment follows thereafter with a base sticker price of $53,900.
