2015 MERCEDES-BENZ SL 400 ROADSTER QUICK TAKES

The sixth generation of the iconic Mercedes-Benz SL is being launched with an all-new aluminum unit body, even more useful technology and a redesigned version of its well-known retractable hardtop.

Although the sleek SL550 as of the 2013 model year is about two inches longer and wider than its predecessor, its aluminum frame is more than 200 pounds lighter than the previous model.

Most of the body panels are also aluminum, while high-strength steel is used in the roof pillars. Overall, the SL body is about 20 percent stiffer than the car it replaces.

2015 Change Highlights:

SL400 added to existing portfolio (in addition to SL550, SL63, and SL65)

SL-CLASS COUPE/ROADSTER MODELS:

SL400: 3.0 V6 biturbo (329 hp / 354 lb-ft) added to portfolio
SL550: continues with direct-injection 4.6-liter biturbo V8 (429 hp/516 lb.-ft) with ECO Start/Stop and more fuel-efficient 7-speed automatic transmission and 18” twin 5-spoke wheels. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds
SL63 AMG: continues with 5.5-liter direct-injection biturbo AMG V8 (530 hp, 590 lb-ft) with ECO Start/Stop and AMG 7-speed MCT with 4 shift modes and RACESTART function. Standard AMG DRL’s, twin-lamella grille, and trunk spoiler. Optional Performance Package continues with 557hp/664 lb-ft.
SL65 AMG: high-performance 6.0-liter V12 model (621hp, 738lb-ft) now features 7-speed automatic transmission.
