INFINITI QX30 2017 FIRST LOOK BY AUTO CRITIC STEVE HAMMES

On the heels of the recently lengthened QX50, Infiniti introduces the smaller 2017 QX30 crossover.

Targeting a new generation of premium buyers, the QX30 aims to bridge the gap between premium compact rivals and larger crossover models.  Base, Luxury and Premium trims come in front-drive configuration while the QX30 AWD, available in Luxury and Premium trims receives a slightly higher ride height and off-road inspired front and rear valence panels.

2017 Infiniti QX30The third version is the QX30 Sport, with a lower stance, aggressive front and rear fascia, cross-drilled brake rotors, 19” wheels and performance tires.  The entire lineup is powered by a 208-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Gas mileage for the 2-wheel drive models is rated at 27mpg in combined driving while AWD variants net 25mpg.  Imported from the U.K. and based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class platform, Infiniti showcases an asymmetrical interior design focused on the driver creating a modern and luxurious cabin.

The QX30 promises supreme interior quietness with seats that provide greater levels of support and comfort than rivals, reducing driver fatigue on longer journeys.  An Around View Monitor with moving object detection and Intelligent Parking Assist combine with the radar-based cruise control and the InTouch infotainment system to provide safety as well as connectivity.

Pricing starts at $30,945 including destination while the range-topping Sport stickers for just under $40,000.
