When Audi entered the SUV business in 2006 with the introduction of the Q7, their future sales success in this arena could not have been imagined. Flash ahead nearly a decade later and Audi has sold more than 2 million SUVs worldwide and though the Q7 is still in its first generation, sales in the U.S. continue to top 1,000 units per month.

So the smart bet is on this all-new 2016 Q7 to be a resounding hit. For up to 7 passengers, Audi is aiming to set the standard in the luxury 3-row segment. With a weight loss of over 700 lbs. the new Q7 is the lightest in its class with gains of 26% in operating efficiency. And shortly after launch, Audi will push the envelope even farther by introducing the world’s first plug-in hybrid with a 6-cylinder diesel engine and all-wheel drive, called the Q7 e-tron quattro.

Though shorter and narrower than its predecessor, the cabin is longer and offers more head, shoulder and knee room. And with the 2^nd row seatbacks folded down, there’s over 73 cubic feet of cargo room; now easier to load thanks to a lowered loading lip and a kicking motion which opens the hatch automatically.

And to advance rear seat entertainment, Audi uses tablets with 10” screens to serve as monitors. The new version of Audi’s MMI system called all-in-touch allows the driver to enter characters on a large touchpad to perform functions. Two engines are available – a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 and a 3.0-liter diesel V6, both equipped with 8-speed automatic transmissions. A new all-wheel steering system is also available.
