2015 Volvo XC90 FIRST LOOK

Volvo XC90 Twin EngineThe Volvo world has been waiting with bated breath for the Swedish brand’s replacement for the original XC90 SUV which was launched in 2002. And that time has finally arrived.  This is the all-new 2015 XC90; a 7-seat, all-wheel drive premium sport-utility delivering an unparalleled combination of performance and efficiency.  Using the new 4-cylinder Drive-E engine, the range-topping XC90 is a plug-in hybrid known as the ‘Twin Engine’ and carries the T8 badge.  Volvo calls it an electric car, hybrid and high-performance machine all rolled into one. The 2.0-liter gas engine is supercharged and turbocharged delivering power to the front wheels while an 80 horsepower electric motor drives the rear wheels.  Total output is around 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.  A driver selectable all-electric mode provides emissions-free city driving with a range of 25 miles.  The alternative powertrain is a twin induction 4-cylinder gasoline engine mated to an 8-speed automatic delivering 316 horsepower. Inside, a large tablet-like touch screen, a head-up display, voice control and thumb controls on the steering wheel, all combine to form a convenient way of interacting with the vehicle and reduce clutter. It also offers a high-end Bowers & Wilkins audio system.  Volvo’s first all-new car since its 2010 merger, the midsize XC90 is priced from just under $50,000.
